Manually Updating Your Nexus 4 to Android 4.3

Good Evening Folks,

Yes I know it has been a long time but we are all excited to have seen the Nexus 7 version 2, Android 4.3 and Google's latest device - the Chrome Cast which were featured today on Google's Breakfast live stream at 12 PM EST.

Now many of you are patiently waiting for the OTA for 4.3 to hit on your Nexus 4 devices provided that you are on stock Android 4.2.2 (i.e. boot loader, kernel, radio, recovery, etc) or you are not such as with root, non stock files, etc.

However, I have found a link on XDA which I give full absolute credit to for sharing instructions on how to update to 4.3 manually on the Nexus 4. Again I take no credit for this as I am sharing what XDA has listed on their website

There are a few ways to do this:
Option #1) Flash the complete JDQ39 image. Follow efrant’s guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...23&postcount=1

Here is my Nexus 4 running Jelly Bean 4.3 via the method of manually installing the Update.zip

How to get root access back onto your Nexus 4:

Now that you have successfully flashed or installed the update.zip for 4.3 on your Nexus 4, you now have to root your phone. There are sources confirming that Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper does not work properly on 4.3 to restore your root access coming from 4.2.2.

Therefore here are the steps:

1) If you have lost your custom recovery in the process, make sure to re flash your custom recovery, be it either TWRP (I prefer this) or ClockWorkMod.

Do note that the latest SuperSu.zip that was tested by Chain Fire (The developers of SuperSu.zip).

CWM users, you need to uncheck the option to "disable stock recovery flash", if it shows up.

Great news everyone! The root I made for the SGS4's 4.3 leak works fine on the official Nexus 4.3 firmwares ( https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images ). Tested on Nexus 10, no issues seen so far.

If you can't wait, see this older post of mine for the download: https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/WqS2E9kkN1L

I will be updating SuperSU and relevant CF-Auto-Root's hopefully somewhere in the next few days, but in the mean time, use the ZIP from the linked post - flash with TWRP.

2) After installing TWRP preferably, you then boot into your custom recovery and select install zip, then choose the latest SuperSu.zip and you are good to go. Viola, that's all there is to this.

* Remember to enable USB Debugging after installing 4.3 manual update.

That's it folks! You have now rooted your Nexus 4 running Android 4.3
